Scarborough Beach Pool

Project Outline

The City of Stirling opened the Scarborough Beach Pool which is a major landmark in an urban re-development of the Scarborough Foreshore precinct.

The pool connects the foreshore promenades, provides new commercial tenancies while maintaining stunning views of the Indian ocean within and over the pool.

The site includes an open air 50m lap pool and a partially shaded kids “learn to swim” pool. Both pools are geothermally heated and functional for sporting, recreational and family use in all seasons.

The water body lighting was required to achieve Australian Standard recommendations. Fittings were required to dim to multiple lighting levels, integrate with the architecture and withstand the harsh coastal conditions. The Cree Edge High Output LED luminaire was selected in order to meet these competing requirements.

The high performance and optics of the luminaire achieved the necessary lighting levels. They were installed with no tilt to minimise glare to the upper promenade. Each luminaire was provisioned with dimming control that is pre-set to Australian Standard levels for recreation and local sporting competition.

The luminaire was coordinated with a custom tapered curved pole to enhance architectural themes, whilst minimising impact to ocean views. The thin profile of the luminaire reduces wind loading on the pole, and the ruggedised die cast aluminium housing with corrosion resistant coatings is suited for operation near the ocean.
