iGuzzini Trip Highlights
A select group of clients from the Perth design community, travelled with us to Italy where iGuzzini hosted an inspirational and informative tour of their facilities and the opportunity to take in the Milano World Expo 2015 and PLDC Rome.
iGuzzini is an international community at the service of architecture and the development of a culture of light, and through its mission of “Social Innovation Through Lighting” it seeks to use light to improve mankind’s relationship with the environment through research, industry, technology and know-how. This mission could not have found a more perfect platform than Expo 2015, on which to illustrate the power of its design and the size and variety of the iGuzzini product range.
Our group were priviledged to visit Leonardo da Vinci’s world famous painting, The Last Supper. iGuzzini have designed a new lighting system with latest generation LED luminaires that highlights the rich colours and splendid details of da Vinci’s masterpiece.
We also visited the Prada Museum, an institution dedicated to contemporary art and culture. Some enjoyed drinks on the funky roof top bar at La Rinascent and others experienced the excitement at an AC Milan football game. We had the best seats in the house for the European MTV concert from the Galleria di Duomo roof top and had two inspiring days at the Milan World Expo. The activities and pavilions focused on the main theme of ‘Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life’. Over 40 international pavilions were lit by iGuzzini including the Vanke China pavilion by world famous architect Daniel Libeskind. iGuzzini also lit the expo with over 2000 Archilede LED luminaires throughout the site.
During our time at iGuzzini HQ our group had an opportunity to learn about the Light First concept and view iGuzzini’s new products. Also experiencing the testing and photometrics lab, factory and night lab.
Our group were lucky enough to hear an inspirational Master Class presentation by Gustavo Aviles the Principal of Mexico City – based architecture and lighting studio Lighteam, as well as presentations by members of our group on ‘Light in my Country’.
The Italian culture is steeped in the arts, family, architecture, music and great food. Our gracious host iGuzzini made sure we experienced the best of it as we were wined and dined.
We visited the port city of Ancona, located in the celebrated Le Marche region of central Italy loved for its untouched natural beauty and delicious cuisine as well as experiencing the commune of Loreto for a taste of Italian history.
