Prime House Joondalup

Project Outline

Mondoluce worked closely with MKDC and ATA Engineers with the lighting selection that complimented the design narrative whilst maintaining an appropriate lighting level in accordance with the relevant Australian Standards. The main feature lighting throughout the six floors saw the ELS SystemKanal SK50 LED extrusion colour coded to balance the dark, earthy hues of the lower levels. Transitioning to a layered earth concept on the middle floors and finally moving towards lighter, softer blues to reflect the air concept.

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation moved to the new location at Prime House in Joondalup early 2019. The project brief required the workplace fitout over 6 floors to be future ready, ensuring the three pillars of the workplace; technology, people and place, be considered in equal parts and adaptive to inevitable change in these key areas over the next 15 years.

MKDC designed a flexible workplace, where workstations that are currently dedicated, can be easily adapted to a more agile workplace strategy. This has been achieved through the provision of lockers and charging stations, laptop docking stations at every desk, and wireless technology throughout.

The project was benchmarked to achieve 5 Star Green Star Interiors certification and 4.5 Star National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) energy rating in alignment with the Government’s best practice approach to sustainability. The design narrative reflects this with an emphasis on biophilic design elements, inspired by nature. The narrative starts on the ground floor; sub terranean concept where the materiality includes rammed earth feature walls and dark earthy hues and textures. The layered earth concept evolves to forests and rivers on the middle floors, finally moving to air on the top floor reflected in cloud graphics, light soft blues and an abundance of natural light.
